Children are smarter than adults are in so many ways. They have the wildest imagination, and believe that they can be anything they want to be. We learn so many things as we get older that just take away from this natural characteristic that kids have. When I was a kid I felt when I was older I was going to be able to do whatever I dreamed I would do, and it wasn't an option that it wouldn't work out. My grandma instilled something in me to have these big dreams.
When I became a mom in 2006 I heard this song by Faith hill, titled Fireflies. This song made me think about how I want my kids to be dreamers, and know that anything is achievable, and anything is possible. There will be days when the world does not make sense but those minutes and days cannot take away your dreams. Since that day I have had the word Fireflies with me everyday… that is the day I opened up an email account with the word fireflies. So when life gets rough, all I have to do is check my email and see that word and know that things will get better and I can still Dream.
Please take the time to watch the video and listen to the lyrics to the song.
Peace!
Side note:
Fireflies, also known as lightning bugs, are are not really "flies" at all, but beetles. They are called "fireflies" due to their bodies lighting up during a process called "bioluminscence," which happens when they are searching for a mate. Each different type of firefly has a specific lighting pattern, which prevents one type being attracted to another type.
Very touching blog post...love the lyrics...and you must have some special grandma.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely loved your blog. It literally brought tears to my eyes. Always keep that kid inside you who knows you will achieve whatever you are dreaming. There isn't an option for it not to happen as long as you keep believing in your dream. It might take longer than you wish it to, but we are learning along the way. No one or nothing can ever take away your dreams without your consent. I think that it is a great plan to have something, like your fireflies, to remind us never to give up on our dreams when we have challenges in life and always know that things will get better and to know "and this to shall pass", and keep on dreaming. You are one special person and I am truly blessed to have you as my granddaughter.
